For all may learne that thereto willing be. -- William Barley, 1594
Scholehouse for the Needle is dedicated to bringing sampler and antique needlework designs to you, as well as providing a forum
for sharing educational information about embroidery from the 17th to 19th centuries.
I first had the urge to have my own design company in 1994, and chose the name Scholehouse for the Needle based on
the 1624 book by Richard Shorleyker. I designed the logo and began charting samplers, but my day job kept getting in the way, so
bringing this company to fruition has taken me on many roads. Finally in 2005, those roads led here - a way for me to share my love
of samplers and 17th century embroidery styles with others. Welcome and enjoy!
Products - Here you will find reproduction and original sampler designs, as well as various items patterned after antique needlework
tools and accessories. In addition, there are designs based on 17th century styles and techniques. And some exciting new stitch
techniques. From time to time as they become available, look for new and out of print books for sale.
Fact & Fancy - A forum for educational information on samplers and other antique needlework, some Helpful Hints and
other related items of interest. All research presented will include appropriate references so you can continue learning.
Gallery - Photos of interest, both needlework and sights
